You probably know that there are a few things you should do every day if you’re interested in preserving a healthy, attractive smile. Flossing, which may be overlooked more frequently than brushing is, is important because food caught between your teeth can lead to decay. But, as you know, there are a few options available for removing food between your teeth—but do you know what the benefits of each are?
For example, you may consider using a toothpick to food from between your teeth after eating. However, if you decide to use a toothpick, please be careful. If you aren’t careful with a toothpick, you could damage your gums or teeth. Furthermore, you could accidentally break your toothpick between your teeth, making it difficult to remove.
Another option that you should consider is a water pick. While you should be gentle with floss and a toothpick, a water pick is inherently more gently because it directs jets of water between your teeth. This makes water jets an especially useful option for individuals who struggle with finger dexterity or who have sensitive teeth.
