If your years are increasing, chances are, you’re feeling the effect of age on your body. Does that include your teeth? If so, know that there are things you can do to slow the aging of your teeth.
The first thing to look at is what you consume. Certain food products can harm your teeth, especially acidic, starchy and sugary foods. At your age, your teeth are more likely to crack or fracture, so you may also want to avoid foods that are difficult to bite into or chew, such as hard candy and corn on the cob. Remember that ice is meant for cooling drinks, not for eating. If you are using tobacco or other drugs, do everything you can to stop immediately. Replace unhealthy eating with foods rich in phosphorus and calcium, and drink lots of water.
The absolute most important thing to do is brush twice and floss once daily. The American Dental Association recommends brushing your teeth for 2 minutes per session. They also recommend a thorough flossing every night before bed. Night-time is usually the best time so that your teeth don’t have bacteria on them from your food all night while you are sleeping. Flossing will take 2-3 minutes per day.
