Have you recently had a tooth extracted? If so, it’s time to heal and recover. The recovery period is quite important in the process leading to the top-notch oral health you need, which is why your dentist, Dr. Lance W. Huthwaite, encourages you to take the recovery period seriously. To help you fully recover, he is happy to give you the tips you need, which are:

-Rest for two to three days following the surgery. Resting is the component that will help you heal the quickest.

-Relieve the pain by taking the medication your dentist prescribed to you. If you didn’t receive any medication, take over-the-counter pain pills.

-Gently bite on gauze pads to stop the bleeding. When the pads fill with blood, make sure to replace them with new pads. Do this until the blood clot forms.

-Ice outside the area to help with the swelling and pain.

-Don’t rinse your mouth or spit the first 24 hours after the surgery.

-Don’t use a straw while you recover. This is important because using a straw can dislodge the clot and cause complications.

-Only have a soft-foods diet while recovering.

-Brush your teeth but be careful along the surgical site while doing so.
