Are you brushing correctly? At first, that may seem like a silly question. After all, you have been brushing your teeth for years, right? At this point it is second nature. And besides, if you are in a hurry to get out the door in the morning, or ready to drop into bed at night, does it really matter how you brush, just as long as you do?

Well, believe it or not, there is a right way to brush your teeth. But don’t worry, with a little effort, you can brush like a pro in no time at all!

First, you need the right tool for the right job. Your toothbrush should have soft bristles, and the head should be small enough to reach every part of your mouth. Start by brushing the insides and then the outsides of your top, and then your bottom teeth. You need to take your time to do the job well. You need to spend at least two minutes brushing to thoroughly clean your teeth. You should hold your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle, but when you clean your front teeth, hold your toothbrush vertically. Don’t forget the biting and chewing surfaces of your teeth. When you are finished, rinse the bristles of your toothbrush until they are free of toothpaste and food particles. Then, store it upright so they are can reach it, and it can dry.

It may take some practice, but by developing good brushing habits, you may help your teeth to last for the rest of your life. But remember that no matter how well you brush, you still need to see our dentists every six months for your regular appointments to give our dentists a chance to clean your teeth and check for any developing problems.
